Radiation Shield Doors

Cronax Radiation Shield Doors are engineered to provide maximum protection against harmful radiation in medical and industrial environments, ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability. Constructed with high-density materials such as lead-lined steel or lead-lined high-pressure laminate (HPL), these doors effectively block X-rays, gamma rays, and other radiation emissions while maintaining smooth, hygienic, and easy-to-clean surfaces. Designed with flush finishes, precision sealing, and robust structures, they ensure durability under heavy usage and stringent operational demands.

Available in hinged, sliding, swing, or hermetic models, Cronax Radiation Shield Doors can be customized with vision panels featuring lead-glass, automation systems, and interlocking mechanisms to meet the safety and workflow requirements of diagnostic imaging rooms, cath labs, CT scan units, X-ray departments, nuclear medicine facilities, and research laboratories.

Door Type / Configuration Single-leaf swing, double-leaf swing, motorized sliding (single or bi-parting), telescopic sliding, or vertical lift (vault) options.
Clear Opening Dimensions Typical widths from 1,000 mm to 2,500 mm (single or paired), heights from 2,100 mm to 3,000 mm, or larger as per site-specific design and shielding constraints.
Shielding / Lead Equivalency Lead sheet or foil layers providing equivalent protection (e.g. 1 mm Pb, 2 mm Pb, 3 mm Pb or more) depending on the radiation source (X-ray, gamma, CT, linac). Some designs also include borated polyethylene layers for neutron attenuation.
Door Leaf Construction / Materials Core structure of metal stiffeners or composite framing supporting embedded lead sheets / layers; outer skins of stainless steel, primed steel, or architectural finishes (HPL, laminates) with smooth flush surfaces.
Frame / Jamb & Continuity Lead-lined frame and jambs matching the door’s shielding level, with overlapping joints, continuous lead laps (e.g. 15 mm minimal overlap) to maintain barrier continuity.
Vision / Observation Panels Lead-glass or lead-equivalent radiation-resistant glazing (1.6 mm to 2.2 mm Pb equivalent or more) mounted flush with lead-lined frames; optical clarity with shielding performance preserved.
Fire / Smoke Rating (Optional) Fire-rated versions (e.g. 20-minute, 30-minute, 60-minute) with intumescent seals and fire-rated lead-lined leaf and frame, where required by code.
Operating Mechanism / Drive Electric motor + gear / drive system for sliding doors; swing versions may use low-energy or full-power drives. Soft-start / soft-stop control. Manual override or manual swing in power failure.
Operating Speed & Timing Typical sliding door speeds: e.g. ~100-150 mm/s to 200-300 mm/s (adjustable). Swing doors shall be responsive but smooth in acceleration / deceleration. (For linac vault doors, typical rated speed ~11.4 cm/s ≈ 114 mm/s)
Duty Cycle & Durability Designed for frequent operations; minimum life cycle rating (e.g. 100,000+ cycles or more). Structural components and hardware rated for high load from heavy door mass.
Safety & Sensors Electromechanical safety edges or reversing edges, IR / optical presence sensors, obstruction detection, emergency stop, auto-reverse on obstruction.
Seal & Leakage Control Gasketing and seals at all perimeters to reduce radiation “leakage paths.” Overlapping lead laps, flush joints, and sealed thresholds as needed.
Emergency / Backup Operation Manual override (lever, crank, push/pull) in case of power failure; battery / UPS backup for limited operation; fail-safe / fail-secure modes as needed.
Finish & Surface Treatments Stainless steel (brushed/satin), primed / painted steel, laminate or architectural finishes; antimicrobial or easy-clean surfaces to support hygiene.
Accessories & Options Kick plates, drip edges, integrated lead-lined thresholds, signage/indicator lights, interlocked remote control, flush drip rails, cleanroom compatibility, sliding door hoods, sound/light alarms.
Standards & Compliance Must conform to local radiation protection codes, NCRP / ICRP guidelines (e.g. NCRP 147, Report 51), national building & fire codes, and hospital design / radiation safety authority approval.
